Environment & Climate Change
Our team is well placed to advise on laws, regulations and policies applicable to environmental issues that affect trade and industrial activity in India. The firm has environment law expertise across the spectrum of transactional, regulatory advisory and dispute management contexts in sectors such as infrastructure, energy and natural resources.
| Intellectual Property Rights
Given the challenges involved in protecting and enforcing IP rights in an evolving market such as India, our IP practice covers both transactional and contentious matters. On the transactional side, our practice ranges from managing intellectual property portfolios (including filing, registration and renewals) to advising on entertainment law, brand acquisitions, domain names, and security interests in intellectual property. We also advise on assignment, licensing, franchising and other components of commercial law and related legal aspects of technology.
Litigation and Alternative Dispute Resolution
Our primary goal is to help clients prevent litigation in India and actively promote arbitration for resolution of commercial disputes. Even in cases where litigation was chosen as an initial recourse, we have often explored ways of settling disputes through mediation and conciliation. Apart from litigating in various courts in India including Tribunals, High Courts and the Supreme Court, our team has had extensive experience with ad-hoc as well as institutional arbitrations conducted by bodies such as the ICC, LCIA and SIAC.
Project Finance / Securitization
We represent the whole spectrum of project participants in this domain, including lenders, underwriters, government agencies and multilateral institutions. We handle legal and regulatory aspects related to project structuring and financing, government regulation and other contractual issues. Our expertise also extends to limited recourse debt financing, cross-border financing, asset disposition, restructuring, portfolio securitization, credit enhancement and risk mitigation techniques.
Indian property laws are complex due to the applicability of various state, central and local legislations. Property dealings in India can be complicated due to small and fragmented holdings, diverse communities and religions, and lack of appropriate documentation. We undertake title verifications, structure transactions, conveyancing and lease/license agreements, and other related documents.
Securities and Capital Markets
The attorneys of the firm have had extensive experience in securities law-related issues working with some of the foremost investment bankers and corporate issuers in a wide range of securities transactions involving initial public offerings, follow-on public offerings, private placements and foreign currency bond issues.
